Congratulations Laura and Chris!

I don't know what the best part of Laura and Chris's wedding was: the fun bridesmaids and groomsmen... the super cute ring bearers (both June birthday boys!) and adorable flower girl... the smiles from the happy couple... the gorgeous setting of Castle in the Clouds... or maybe the cupcakes? I had a fantastic time documenting it all.

Be Their Guest

I was so excited today when the delivery man came with Megan and Ted's guest book! It looks great. So many of their friends and relatives left kind words about this couple when voting was going on for the engagement story contest, and I think Megan and Ted's guests will love seeing the photos that they helped make possible at their wedding next month!

I had a fantastic time with Megan and Ted on the Maine coast last weekend! Megan and Ted were the winners of my guest book contest, and it was wonderful to finally meet the couple who inspired so many of their friends and family members to come vote for their love story. They are such a sweet couple, it is easy to see why they were so popular with voters!

After a few sprinkles earlier in the day, the sky opened up and we got perfect spring weather and beautiful light at Short Sands Beach and Cape Neddick. Megan and Ted's handsome dog Buddy was able to join a few shots as well, and he had a great time running on the beach with his pal Maisy - check out their pup portraits below, plus some of my other favorite shots of the happy couple!

The Holga is technically a plastic toy camera; the two setting choices for exposure are (1) an image of a cloudy sky and (2) an image of a sunny sky. The folks at Holga step up their game a little by giving *four* choices for focus: A mountain, a group of people, a family of three, and a single person. Rumor has it that on some models, the single person is a distinguished graduate, wearing cap and gown. Not so on my Holga 120, but it still takes some pretty smart pics. The following were all taken at Coney Island during the summer of 2007. (I am thinking about enriching my all-digital wedding coverage by adding a roll or two of medium format shots to each package; any interested brides & grooms out there?)

All About Albums! Part One: Flush Mount Basics

Most couples come to me with a pretty good idea of what they want when it comes to wedding photography. But once albums enter the mix, there is usually some confusion. It's no wonder - there are more options than ever for preserving and displaying your wedding photographs.

Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be posting information about the wedding albums I offer, as well as a few cool album alternatives and tips for do-it-yourself display of your images. Albums are so important; Wedding photographer Bambi Cantrell often points out that the wedding album is the first heirloom of a new family. What would you like to know about the books that will help you relive your wedding story for the rest of your life? Today, I'll introduce you to the Classic Album, which is included in two of the packages I offer. This is a flush mount album, which means that the pages are designed as a book or magazine would be, and then printed as a single photograph. The photographs are then affixed to a thick page core, so these books are very durable. The albums I use actually have a plastic core, so they will last a lifetime. See how nice and sturdy they are?


The covers of the classic album are a leather-like material, which most brides love because it is more affordable than full grain leather, and also animal friendly! There are several cover options for your album, but I think basic black is a timeless choice. Color trends come and go, which anyone who has ever lived with a harvest gold refrigerator knows. Aside from the chic factor, another benefit is that the black cover can be blind embossed with your names, as in the photo below.

Happy Inauguration, Mr. President

One of the up sides to life in New Hampshire - for a photographer, anyway - is that no matter who ends up becoming president, you are almost certain to have a few photos of them by the time it happens. When candidates were visiting in anticipation of the "first in the nation" primaries over a year ago, I of course kept my camera by my side the whole time. Today, Barack Obama has officially been sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. Here are two of my favorite images from his time in the Granite State.

The black and white image was made during Obama's speech in Nashua after the NH Primary on January 8, 2008. I love taking non-traditional portraits like this.












I took this one while then-candidate Obama fielded questions from primary voters in Manchester, NH during the summer of 2007.

Congrats MEGAN & TED!

It was a very tight race, and all of the stories were fantastic! My deepest thanks to all of the couples for sharing their wonderful stories... and the voters for helping to make a choice that I would have found impossible to make! After crunching the numbers, Megan and Ted came out ahead and will get an engagement session and custom photo guest book. Based on the comments from their friends, I am super excited about photographing them. According to one voter, Megan and Ted are the next Brangelina, and people will soon be paying them for their photos!

Thanks again to the rest of the couples - and congratulations on your upcoming weddings. After seeing the great comments about each of you from your friends and families, I know you will all have beautiful marriages.
